When grown men cry (because of cycling)

I've been accused of being an overly sentimental person once or fifty times in my lifetime. At times I think that it's merely my personality, but when I watch a video like the one below...I can safely tell you that my Colombian upbringing and genetic make up is to blame. We Colombians have some kind of faulty chromosome, one that makes us particularly susceptible to getting emotional about many things, cycling in particular. So the next time any of you want to post a comment on this blog about how I'm being too sentimental I will simply remind you that my genetic make up has made me predisposed to such unnecessary displays of emotion.

Now that I've told you this, I want to share this video below. It was made by the Colombian Board of Tourism, to announce their sponsorship of a new cycling team, one which is now called Cafe De Colombia/Colombia Es Pasion. It might seem a bit over the top (because it is), considering that they're just announcing their sponsorship, something that most American and European companies do with a simple press release. But not Colombians. Oh no. Colombians queue up the violins, and dust off the old footage of Colombian cyclists bleeding.

Anyway, enjoy the video and have a good weekend. And remember, if you catch yourself crying, or having unusual bursts of emotion (like the announcer in this video) ...you're not unstable or insane. You're just a tiny bit Colombian.

If you want to hear further displays of unnecessary emotion by fellow Colombians, read this post. It includes great video of Colombian cycling announcers getting rather emotional at certain races.
